What devices and iOS versions are supported?
EF Bee is optimized natively for iPhone running iOS 26.0 or later. The UI adopts the Apple Liquid Glass design language and is tuned for high-refresh 120Hz ProMotion OLED displays.
Can I use EF Bee completely offline without cell or Wi-Fi service?
Yes. Before flight, open the Settings & Downloads tab to pre-cache sectional basemaps, FAA digital obstacle files, and d-TPP instrument procedure PDF plates. Once downloaded, all maps, route parsing, and approach plates function 100% offline in airplane mode.
How does the route bar syntax work?
The route bar uses intelligent token parsing separated by spaces:
IDENT: Single waypoint, fix, VOR, or airport (e.g.KSFO,OSI).START.AWY.END: Airway segment (e.g.OSI.V334.SAC). Tapping and holding an airway chip expands all constituent intermediate fixes.RWY.PROC.TRANS: Standard Instrument Departure (e.g.01L.SIDDZ1.TRANS).TRANS.PROC.RWY: Standard Terminal Arrival Route (e.g.TRANS.STARR1.01L).TYPE.RWYorTYPE.VARIANT.RWY: Instrument Approach Procedure (e.g.ILS.19R,RNAV.Y.28L).
How are georeferenced approach plates displayed?
In the Charts tab, select an airport and tap any eligible Instrument Approach Procedure (IAP) marked with the map icon. EF Bee reads the embedded FAA geospatial transformation dictionary (/GPTS, /LPTS, /VP) and seamlessly renders the plate directly atop your moving map with true scale and coordinate alignment.
Which external GPS and ADS-B receivers can I use?
EF Bee supports any external GPS receiver connected via CoreLocation (such as the Dual XGPS150/160, Bad Elf, or Garmin GLO). In addition, it integrates with open Stratux and GDL-90 protocol ADS-B In receivers broadcasting over local Wi-Fi to provide live traffic targets and weather.
How frequently is aeronautical navdata refreshed?
Our backend server synchronizes with official FAA AIS, NASR, CIFP, and d-TPP databases every 28 days in lockstep with the international AIRAC aeronautical cycle.
Cockpit Troubleshooting Guide
GPS Accuracy or No-Signal Warnings
If the GPS status bar indicates a weak signal or "No GPS Fix":
- Verify in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > EF Bee that access is set to "While Using the App".
- Ensure Precise Location is toggled ON. Without Precise Location, iOS provides an approximate city-level coordinate unsuitable for flight.
- In the cockpit, place your iPhone or external GPS puck near the glare shield with an unobstructed view of the sky.
Managing Storage and Re-downloading Chart Cycles
If you need to free up storage space or force an immediate re-fetch of current AIRAC plates:
- Navigate to the Settings tab in EF Bee.
- Scroll to Downloads & Storage.
- Tap Clear Chart Cache to purge stale PDFs, or tap Download Current Cycle to fetch the latest 28-day package.
External Stratux / GDL-90 Connection
To receive ADS-B traffic from a Stratux unit:
- Join the Wi-Fi network generated by your Stratux hardware (e.g.
stratux-xxxx). - Launch EF Bee. The app automatically listens on standard GDL-90 broadcast UDP port 4000.
- The GPS status pill will reflect external ADS-B status and traffic target counts.
